Automationsdagarna (Automation Days), organised by Instrumenttekniska Föreningen, brought together industry experts to discuss the future of industrial automation and to award Sweden’s annual Automation Award. At the event, Predge AB was represented by Wolfgang Birk, who delivered an invited talk on “Predictive Maintenance and the industrialization perspective.”
In his presentation, Wolfgang Birk examined why predictive maintenance, despite its promise to improve efficiency and reduce costs, still faces challenges in large-scale industrial deployment. He highlighted the role of digitalisation and integrated condition-monitoring data as key prerequisites and discussed how technological and human factors often limit broader adoption. As part of the talk, the COP-PILOT use case UC1.3 was presented to illustrate current limitations and to demonstrate how COP-PILOT technologies can support improved scalability, reliability, and more flexible integration of industrial data sources.
Wolfgang Birk also participated in a panel discussion addressing the growing shortage of expert staff in industry. The discussion explored how AI and advanced automation solutions can help mitigate this challenge, particularly as experienced professionals retire and fewer young specialists enter the field. In this context, increasing automation in areas such as system roll-out, data integration, and solution management, key aspects reflected in COP-PILOT UC1.3, were highlighted as an important step toward more resilient and scalable industrial operations.
