Kingston University presenting the three-layer KVI framework at the British Academy of Management Conference 2026, Royal Holloway

Kingston University (KUL) represented COP-PILOT Horizon at the British Academy of Management (BAM) Conference 2026, held at Royal Holloway, University of London, presenting research developed through the project on measuring value creation within digital platform ecosystems.

KUL presented the paper “Bridging Performance and Purpose: A Socio-Technical Framework for Key Value Indicators (KVI) in Digital Platform Ecosystems,” co-authored with Youngseok Thomas Choi, Uthayasankar Sivarajah, Amizan Omar and Jing Li (UBRAD).

The research addresses the limitations of relying primarily on conventional Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) when evaluating complex digital platform ecosystems. It develops a three-layer KVI ontology, linking Operational Efficiency, Ecosystem Relational Value, and Strategic and Normative Impact, providing a pathway for connecting technical performance with wider organisational, ecosystem and societal value.

Using COP-PILOT as the research context, the framework contributes to the project’s wider impact-assessment activities by examining how technical performance can translate into outcomes such as collaboration and trust, sustainability, resilience, equity and wider societal value.

The presentation provided an opportunity to disseminate COP-PILOT research to the international business and management academic community and exchange perspectives on how emerging digital technologies can be assessed not only in terms of how well they perform, but also the value they create, for whom, and towards what wider purpose.
