SUMMARY:PortComms25
DESCRIPTION:PortComms25\, held in London on 8–9 October 2025\, brought together experts from leading ports across Europe and beyond to discuss the pivotal role of wireless communications and private 5G networks in modernizing port operations. The event explored real-world experiences and challenges in building reliable\, continuous connectivity across complex infrastructures. Key themes included: \n\nPrivate 5G newtorks: Several ports shared lessons learned from deploying private 5G networks\, highlighting benefits such as low-latency communication\, enhanced network resilience\, and improved automation.\nBoosting efficiency through connectivity: Continuous wireless coverage was emphasized as a foundation for real-time tracking\, automation\, and enhanced safety in port operations.\nPreparing networks for future growth: Speakers addressed how to scale network solutions to support growing demands\, from IoT devices to autonomous port vehicles.\n\nOur partner\, Fundación Valenciaport\, actively participated in the event\, presenting the latest advances in 5G technology at the Port of Valencia. The presentation highlighted results from pilots conducted over the past year\, including installation and deployment of a new 5G node\, the implementation of use cases involving Unmanned Surface Vehicles (USVs)\, Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs)\, and other autonomous devices; and a demonstration of the tangible benefits of 5G for port operations. \nFundación Valenciaport introduced the COP-PILOT Horizon project\, emphasizing its role in deploying a comprehensive network and service orchestrator across multiple domains. The project aims to enhance interoperability and operational efficiency in smart ports\, industrial environments\, and smart cities\, enabling real-time data exchange\, advanced analytics\, and AI-driven decision-making. \nPortComms25 provided a unique platform to showcase how advanced 5G networks can transform port operations and how COP-PILOT contributes to accelerating the adoption of innovative\, data-driven solutions in real-world environments.
