SUMMARY:Open Community for Research (OCR) 2026
DESCRIPTION:Special workshop:\nOpen‑Source Strategies for Europe’s Sovereign Digital Infrastructure – Striving for industrial European open-source platforms \n\n  \nThe COP-PILOT Horizon project will participate in the Open Community for Research 2026\, a two-day event co-located with the Open Community Experience 2026\, organised by the Eclipse Foundation. The event brings together researchers\, industry representatives\, and policymakers to explore how open-source collaboration can accelerate the translation of research into scalable\, interoperable digital solutions. \nRolf Riemenschneider\, Project Officer for both O-CEI Horizon and COP-PILOT Horizon\, will share insights on the policy and strategic importance of open-source ecosystems for Europe’s digital sovereignty. His presentation will highlight how collaborative development models\, standards-driven platforms\, and open-source infrastructures contribute to building a sovereign European software stack that supports innovation\, interoperability\, and secure cross-sector data exchange. \nGeorge Katsikas\, COP-PILOT’s Technical Coordinator\, will provide a detailed introduction to the project\, presenting the vision for a Pan-European standardized marketplace of services across five heterogeneous vertical sectors. He will explain the open-source reference architecture underpinning the project\, covering telco\, cloud\, edge\, and AI domains\, and demonstrate how the COP-PILOT platform maps to this architecture. His talk will also highlight how COP-PILOT is laying the foundation for future European flagship initiatives\, such as Euro-3C\, and contributing to the long-term development of interoperable\, standards-based European digital infrastructures. \nThrough these presentations\, COP-PILOT will showcase how open-source collaboration\, a standardized platform approach\, and cross-sector integration are key to driving sustainable innovation and digital sovereignty in Europe.

SUMMARY:COP-PILOT Cluster 4 Pilot 3 Demonstrates Interoperability for Vineyard Decision Support at AVIPE 2026
DESCRIPTION:On 23 April 2026\, COP-PILOT carried out its third Cluster 4 Smart Vineyards pilot at Filipe Palhoça Vinhos\, in the context of an AVIPE event\, with Terraview GmbH and OneSource as the main contributing partners. The pilot demonstrated the Water Utilisation Efficiency use case in a real vineyard environment\, combining soil-moisture sensing\, drone-based monitoring\, edge computing\, and vineyard analytics within a unified COP-PILOT workflow. \nThe activity validated the ability of the COP-PILOT platform to integrate heterogeneous data sources and orchestrate analytics services across different vineyard settings while maintaining operational consistency. Around 40 farmers and vineyard stakeholders attended the demonstration\, providing valuable feedback on how integrated sensing\, edge processing\, and analytics can support more informed and sustainable decision-making in precision viticulture. The pilot further reinforced COP-PILOT’s objectives related to interoperability\, portability\, and scalable digital solutions for agriculture. \nFor more information\, read this blog post.

SUMMARY:Cluster 3A (ATSI) In-Field Demonstration
DESCRIPTION:As part of COP-PILOT’s Cluster 3A\, AgriTech Transformation and Sustainability Initiative (ATSI)\, the project successfully carried out\, at the beginning of April\, the first fully integrated field demonstration of its robotic weed management solution in spinach cultivation fields in Kilkis\, Greece. \nFor the first time\, all core field components operated together as a unified system under real agricultural conditions. A custom-equipped Unmanned Ground Vehicle (UGV)\, developed and operated by the Agricultural University of Athens (AUA)\, autonomously navigated crop rows\, detecting and spot-treating weeds using on-board edge AI. At the same time\, a Unmanned Aerial Vehicle performed aerial monitoring of the same fields\, providing complementary insights from above. Data from both platforms were streamed in real time to the AgroApps 360 Farm Management Information System (FMIS)\, which acted as the operational backbone linking field-level intelligence with farm management processes. The demonstration provided a tangible example of COP-PILOT’s end-to-end orchestration capabilities across the Cloud-Edge-IoT continuum. \nThe activity validated the project’s integrated technology stack\, combining ground robotics\, aerial monitoring\, edge-based AI inference\, and cloud-enabled coordination within a single operational workflow. It demonstrated the solution’s readiness for deployment in real farming environments while showcasing the benefits of interoperable digital services for precision agriculture. \nThe demonstration brought together researchers from AUA\, specialists from AgroApps\, agronomists from Barba Stathis\, and local farmers collaborating with Barba Stathis. Participants engaged directly with the technologies in the field\, generating valuable discussions on operational workflows\, practical applicability\, and the integration of autonomous robotics\, edge intelligence\, and 5G-enabled services into day-to-day agricultural operations.

SUMMARY:CEI-Sphere Open Consultation on Industrial Optimisation & Productivity
DESCRIPTION:On 27 April 2026\, the COP-PILOT project will participate in the CEI-Sphere open consultation on Industrial Optimisation & Productivity\, organised by INSIDE Industry Association. \nCEI-Sphere brings together three complementary domains (Industry\, Energy\, and Mobility) to foster collaboration across Europe’s Cloud-Edge-IoT ecosystem. Within the Industry sphere\, INSIDE is convening this consultation to engage key stakeholders from large-scale initiatives such as COP-PILOT Horizon and O-CEI Horizon. \nThe session aims to explore the challenges and opportunities associated with the commercial adoption of Cloud-Edge-IoT (CEI) solutions emerging from Europe’s Large-Scale Pilots. A particular focus will be placed on strengthening the Edge-to-Cloud Continuum (E2CC) and identifying key gaps\, barriers\, and future priorities for scaling industrial uptake. \nThrough its participation\, COP-PILOT will share insights from its pilot activities and contribute to discussions with ecosystem stakeholders\, supporting the development of a more open\, competitive\, and innovation-driven European CEI landscape.
