SUMMARY:ICTC 2025
DESCRIPTION:The COP-PILOT project was proudly represented at the International Conference on ICT Convergence (ICTC) 2025\, held on 15–16 October in Jeju Island\, Korea – a global forum for exploring the future of digital transformation and intelligent networks. \nDr. Jing Li\, Associate Director at the University of Bradford\, delivered a presentation titled “Key Value Indicators for 6G: Evaluating Economic\, Social\, Environmental\, and Service Quality Impacts through Performance Metrics and Sustainability Assessment.” \nHer talk addressed one of the most pressing questions in the transition towards 6G networks: how to measure the true value of next-generation connectivity\, not just in terms of performance\, but through its economic\, social\, environmental\, and service quality impact. \n \nDr. Li introduced a framework for mapping Key Value Indicators (KVIs) to Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) across multiple industry verticals. The proposed model integrates technical performance\, societal value\, and environmental sustainability\, helping policymakers\, researchers\, and industry stakeholders ensure that future networks deliver net-positive outcomes across all dimensions. \nIn addition\, Dr. Li participated in the panel discussion “AI for 6G and Beyond: Intelligent Networks and Digital Twin Synergies\,” contributing to debates on how AI-driven analytics and digital twin technologies can unlock intelligent\, resilient\, and sustainable communication systems. \nThe discussions were centred on the project’s desired impact and its evaluation framework from non-technical perspectives\, in line with COP-PILOT’s objective to enhance the sustainability\, societal\, and business impact of next-generation IoT and edge computing services across various domains.

SUMMARY:ITF Automationsdagar 2026
DESCRIPTION:Automationsdagarna (Automation Days)\, organised by Instrumenttekniska Föreningen\, brought together industry experts to discuss the future of industrial automation and to award Sweden’s annual Automation Award. At the event\, Predge AB was represented by Wolfgang Birk\, who delivered an invited talk on “Predictive Maintenance and the industrialization perspective.” \nIn his presentation\, Wolfgang Birk examined why predictive maintenance\, despite its promise to improve efficiency and reduce costs\, still faces challenges in large-scale industrial deployment. He highlighted the role of digitalisation and integrated condition-monitoring data as key prerequisites and discussed how technological and human factors often limit broader adoption. As part of the talk\, the COP-PILOT use case UC1.3 was presented to illustrate current limitations and to demonstrate how COP-PILOT technologies can support improved scalability\, reliability\, and more flexible integration of industrial data sources. \nWolfgang Birk also participated in a panel discussion addressing the growing shortage of expert staff in industry. The discussion explored how AI and advanced automation solutions can help mitigate this challenge\, particularly as experienced professionals retire and fewer young specialists enter the field. In this context\, increasing automation in areas such as system roll-out\, data integration\, and solution management\, key aspects reflected in COP-PILOT UC1.3\, were highlighted as an important step toward more resilient and scalable industrial operations.

SUMMARY:NorthStar Community Meeting on March 11–12
DESCRIPTION:On 11 March\, ThingWave AB participated in the NorthStar Community Meeting at Luleå University of Technology in Sweden\, where it presented an early prototype developed within the COP-PILOT Horizon Europe project. \nThe demonstration showcased how COP-PILOT technologies are being applied to improve safety in underground mining environments.  The prototype implemented a geofencing concept\, where data from a ThingWave RBM-XR bolt sensor triggered physical visual alerts to enhance hazard awareness. \nDuring the live demonstration\, CEO Jens Eliasson simulated load and elongation on the instrumented rock bolt. The sensor data was used in real time to control an LED strip\, visually indicating risk levels within the geofenced area. As stress increased\, the lighting changed from green to yellow and then to red\, providing an immediate and intuitive warning of potentially dangerous conditions. \nThis use case illustrates how COP-PILOT integrates Industrial IoT\, sensing technologies\, and advanced connectivity such as 5G to deliver real-time monitoring and early warning systems. The demonstration highlighted the project’s role in advancing smart\, connected safety solutions for industrial environments\, particularly in high-risk sectors such as underground mining.
