SUMMARY:EuCNC & 6G Summit
DESCRIPTION:UPV and Nokia Spain Presented Remote Driving and Inter-Slice Connectivity Results at EuCNC & 6G Summit 2026\nDuring EuCNC & 6G Summit 2026 in Málaga\, Universitat Politècnica de València (UPV)\, in collaboration with Nokia Spain\, presented the poster “Validating Remote Driving via Field Characterization and Inter-Slice Connectivity”\, showcasing recent work on 5G-enabled remote driving\, private network federation\, and end-to-end teleoperation across isolated 5G Standalone Non-Public Networks. \nThe activity was carried out in the context of the COP-PILOT project\, specifically contributing to Cluster 2 – Smart Sustainable IoT Solutions in Valencia and aligning with UC#2.2 – Smart and Sustainable IoT-Connected Campus. Within this use case\, the UPV campus acts as a controlled smart-city-like environment where advanced IoT\, connectivity\, edge-cloud\, and data-driven mechanisms can be validated under realistic operational conditions. \nThe work presented by UPV and Nokia Spain focused on the interconnection of two isolated 5G Non-Public Networks: a Visiting NPN at UPV in Valencia\, where an Autonomous Mobile Robot was deployed\, and a Host NPN at Nokia Spain in Madrid\, where an immersive cockpit was used for remote operation. The two domains were connected through a secure inter-slice VPN architecture\, enabling the extension of local slice contexts across administrative and geographical domains. \nThe poster described a two-phase validation methodology. First\, UPV performed radio environment characterization of the campus 5G private network\, assessing coverage\, signal quality\, throughput\, and the impact of RAN-level QoS policies. Second\, the partners validated the federated inter-slice architecture through an end-to-end remote-driving experiment\, in which the robot at UPV was controlled from the Nokia XR Lab cockpit in Madrid. \nThe results demonstrated the feasibility of remote driving over federated 5G private networks and highlighted the importance of slice prioritization\, uplink video performance\, and reliable inter-domain connectivity for robotic and immersive applications. The activity also provided insights into future mechanisms for automated inter-domain slice selection\, policy negotiation\, and latency-sensitive traffic management. \nFrom the COP-PILOT perspective\, this activity contributes to the development of interoperable\, distributed\, and intelligent IoT-edge-cloud environments for smart campuses and smart cities. By combining 5G private networks\, mobile robotics\, immersive control interfaces\, and cross-domain connectivity\, the work supports the broader Cluster 2 objective of validating scalable digital infrastructure for sustainable\, connected\, and future-ready urban environments. \nThe participation in EuCNC & 6G Summit 2026 provided an opportunity to disseminate COP-PILOT-related research outcomes to the European 5G/6G community and to engage with researchers\, industry representatives\, technology providers\, and project partners working on next-generation communication networks\, private 5G deployments\, robotics\, and service orchestration.

SUMMARY:2026 Annual EurOMA Conference
DESCRIPTION:Presenting “Bridging the Gap Between Technical Validation and Societal Impact: Evidence from the Large-scale Edge Computing Piloting Project” \nKUL/UBRAD will present COP-PILOT Horizon at the annual conference of EurOMA. KUL/UBRAD participates in the project as an impact assessment partner\, with responsibility for measuring the project’s societal\, business\, and sustainability dimensions across its four industrial clusters. Working alongside 46 consortium partners spanning energy\, smart cities\, agriculture\, and manufacturing\, the team’s mandate is to ensure that the value generated by edge-to-cloud deployments is captured not only in technical terms but across the broader economic\, environmental\, and social outcomes that matter to stakeholders and policymakers alike. \nThe team’s primary activity has been the design and operationalisation of an integrated KPI–KVI (Key Performance Indicators – Key Value Indicators) evaluation framework. This required an initial requirements-engineering phase in which the needs of heterogeneous stakeholders – technology providers\, industrial end-users\, public authorities\, and citizen-facing intermediaries – were systematically extracted and reconciled. The resulting framework organises assessment across three interlinked layers: technical performance\, operational and ecosystem value\, and societal and sustainability impact\, with a cross-cutting governance and learning dimension. \nThe work has already demonstrated that making societal and ecosystem value explicitly measurable through KVIs placed on equal footing with technical KPIs\, is a powerful enabler for turning promising edge computing demonstrations into durable\, large-scale deployments. Early evidence across the clusters points to meaningful gains in operational efficiency\, carbon footprint reduction\, and public service quality\, confirming that orchestrated edge-to-cloud solutions can deliver substantial value well beyond their technical performance. \nPost-event updates\nKUL/UBRAD presented the paper at the 2026 Annual EurOMA Conference in Vienna\, 27 June – 2 July 2026.

SUMMARY:Americas Conference on Information Systems (AMCIS) 2026
DESCRIPTION:COP-PILOT Research Presented at AMCIS 2026 in USA\nCOP-PILOT was represented at the Americas Conference on Information Systems (AMCIS 2026) in Reno\, Nevada\, where researchers from the University of Bradford (UBRAD) and OneSource brought the project’s research on edge-cloud technologies\, digital infrastructure\, and impact evaluation into an international information systems community. \nAs chairs of the AMCIS mini-track “Edge Computing\, AI\, and Digital Governance: Towards Inclusive and Accountable Public Administration”\, UBRAD and OneSource led discussions on the governance\, value\, and societal implications of emerging distributed technologies. \nA key contribution presented at the conference was the paper “Beyond the Performance Trap: A Multi-Level IS Framework for Valuing Disruptive Technology Transitions.” The paper introduced the Multi-Level IS Value Framework (MIVF)\, which combines three complementary perspectives (IS Success\, IT Business Value\, and Digital Infrastructure / Service-Dominant Logic) to assess technology value beyond conventional technical performance metrics. \nThe framework was illustrated through COP-PILOT’s Smart Energy pilot\, examining the transition towards edge-cloud technologies and showing how the same evidence can lead to different conclusions depending on whether value is assessed solely through traditional performance indicators or through technical\, organisational and ecosystem perspectives. \nThe COP-PILOT team also extended the discussion beyond the conference through workshops at the University of Nevada\, Reno and the University of Nevada\, Las Vegas. These sessions provided opportunities to present the framework\, gather feedback from international researchers and critically examine how effectively the approach captures value creation across different technological\, organisational and ecosystem contexts. \nThe participation at AMCIS 2026 strengthened COP-PILOT’s international research and dissemination activities\, while opening dialogue around a central project question: how can the value and impact of disruptive Cloud-Edge-IoT technologies be evaluated beyond technical performance\, taking into account organisational transformation and wider ecosystem effects. \nThe conference contribution also demonstrated the growing relevance of COP-PILOT research beyond the project’s pilots\, connecting its work on interoperable digital infrastructure and systemic technology transitions with wider international research on digital transformation\, information systems and technology value.

SUMMARY:EGOV-CeDEM-ePart 2026
DESCRIPTION:COP-PILOT Research on Smart City Value Evaluation Presented at EGOV-CeDEM-ePart 2026\nCOP-PILOT Horizon was represented at EGOV-CeDEM-ePart 2026 through research presented on the evaluation of edge-enabled smart city solutions. \nThe paper\, “Evaluating Edge-Enabled Smart Waste Management in Smart Cities: A Design-Oriented KVI/KPI Framework\,” was developed collaboratively by researchers from the University of Bradford\, Kingston University London\, and Universitat Politècnica de València (UPV). The research is grounded in a live smart waste management pilot in Valencia\, Spain\, developed within Cluster 2 – Smart Cities of the COP-PILOT project. \nThe paper proposes a three-dimensional framework that connects measurable Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) with higher-order Key Value Indicators (KVIs) across sustainability\, social\, and business value dimensions. The framework aims to move evaluation beyond technical performance alone and provide a more comprehensive view of the value generated by edge-enabled smart city solutions. \nEvidence from the Valencia pilot includes an approximately 53% reduction in memory usage through split services and a 6.9-second actuation time from sensor activation to service deployment. These results provide evidence at the technical system level\, while the paper highlights the need for longitudinal assessment to determine how such improvements translate into wider public value. \nThe contribution demonstrates how Cluster 2’s real-world pilot activities are supporting research on the evaluation of smart city technologies\, while also strengthening the scientific dissemination and impact of COP-PILOT beyond the project’s pilot deployments. \nRead the paper and explore the COP-PILOT scientific publications.

SUMMARY:British Academy of Management (BAM) Conference 2026
DESCRIPTION:Kingston University (KUL) represented COP-PILOT Horizon at the British Academy of Management (BAM) Conference 2026\, held at Royal Holloway\, University of London\, presenting research developed through the project on measuring value creation within digital platform ecosystems. \nKUL presented the paper “Bridging Performance and Purpose: A Socio-Technical Framework for Key Value Indicators (KVI) in Digital Platform Ecosystems\,” co-authored with Youngseok Thomas Choi\, Uthayasankar Sivarajah\, Amizan Omar and Jing Li (UBRAD). \nThe research addresses the limitations of relying primarily on conventional Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) when evaluating complex digital platform ecosystems. It develops a three-layer KVI ontology\, linking Operational Efficiency\, Ecosystem Relational Value\, and Strategic and Normative Impact\, providing a pathway for connecting technical performance with wider organisational\, ecosystem and societal value. \nUsing COP-PILOT as the research context\, the framework contributes to the project’s wider impact-assessment activities by examining how technical performance can translate into outcomes such as collaboration and trust\, sustainability\, resilience\, equity and wider societal value. \nThe presentation provided an opportunity to disseminate COP-PILOT research to the international business and management academic community and exchange perspectives on how emerging digital technologies can be assessed not only in terms of how well they perform\, but also the value they create\, for whom\, and towards what wider purpose.

SUMMARY:6th Conference on Foundation Models of the Electric Grid (GridFM 2026)
DESCRIPTION:enakronIC will represent CL3E and COP-PILOT at the 6th Conference on Foundation Models of the Electric Grid (GridFM 2026). INESC TEC hosts the conference at the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto on 29–30 October 2026. ENIC’s poster was accepted for the conference’s Poster Session. \nThe poster is titled “Supernetwork Architecture Selection for Deployable Language Models: RAG Assessment of Overhead-Line Insulators on a 2 GB Device for Grid Operator’s Maintenance Crews”\, by Vasilis Rizeakos\, Dimitrios Brodimas and Athanasios Bachoumis. It presents an on-device assistant for crews who inspect overhead-line insulator strings from drone photographs. The assistant combines a two-stage vision detector with retrieval from IEC\, CIGRE\, and operator documentation\, and a small language model that runs on a 2 GB edge board. It avoids hallucination by construction: findings are fixed text set by rule\, every answer cites reviewed sources\, and code-level guards check the answers. A single super-network training run produces eleven deployable model sizes. A selection rule then picks the fastest model that meets the quality target and fits the device’s memory\, reaching a quality score of 0.85 at 1\,172 MB on the board. The work matches Cluster 3E’s focus on edge intelligence for grid reliability in RES-rich distribution grids by providing AI that is trustworthy\, aware of its hardware limits\, and deployable at the edge\, to support grid operators and field crews. \nThe event will give COP-PILOT visibility with the European and international grid-AI community and a chance to discuss edge-AI deployment for grid operators with researchers and utilities.
