SUMMARY:DATA-Introduction of ETSI SDGs to TC DATA and Presentation from SDG OpenSlice
DESCRIPTION:Several partners in the COP-PILOT Horizon consortium (UBITECH\, Telefónica\, and p-NET Emerging Networks & Vertical Applications) attended the “DATA-Introduction of ETSI SDGs to TC DATA and Presentation from SDG OpenSlice.”  \nDiego R. Lopez\, from Telefonica\, leads the TC Data Technical Group in ETSI. \nChristos Tranoris\, from p-NET\, did an introduction to ETSI SDG OpenSlice. His talk covered how and when OpenSlice was conceived back in 2019\, its transition to ETSI\, the current ETSI SDG OpenSlice architecture\, the ecosystem of plug-and-play controllers around SDG OpenSlice\, as well as the recent ETSI HypO MDG that was introduced as an extension of OpenSlice towards multi-domain scenarios. \nGeorgios P. Katsikas presented UBITECH’s work within COP-PILOT project\, focusing on extending ETSI SDG OpenSlice to enable data-aware\, secure multi-domain orchestration for telco-edge environments. During the presentation\, Georgios P. Katsikas from UBITECH discussed the evolving compute–network–data continuum and highlighted the need to bridge the gap between orchestration platforms and data space ecosystems. \nThe presentation described OpenSlice as a Telco Edge–ready orchestration platform capable of multi-domain service orchestration with built-in security and extensibility through pluggable controllers. A key focus was integrating “data-awareness” into orchestration processes\, enabling data services to be dynamically combined with compute and network resources while respecting policy and data-sharing constraints across domains. \nCOP-PILOT was presented as a large-scale European initiative where OpenSlice plays a central architectural role in supporting federated orchestration across multiple vertical sectors\, including smart cities\, energy\, agriculture\, manufacturing\, and mining. The presentation also highlighted the project’s distributed marketplace of orchestration services and its use of federated data infrastructures and secure networking technologies to enable policy-driven and secure data exchange across domains. \nFor more information\, read this article.

SUMMARY:AIOTI Workshop: “Empowering Energy Infrastructure: The Role of 5G/6G and Edge Intelligence
DESCRIPTION:COP-PILOT Showcased Smart Energy Innovations at AIOTI Workshop on 5G/6G and Edge Intelligence\nCOP-PILOT Horizon participated in the AIOTI workshop “Empowering Energy Infrastructure: The Role of 5G/6G and Edge Intelligence”\, which brought together experts from the energy sector\, IoT ecosystems\, research organisations\, and next-generation communication networks to explore the future of intelligent energy systems. \nThe workshop opened with remarks from Rolf Riemenschneider\, who highlighted Europe’s ongoing transition towards distributed operational intelligence and smarter grid infrastructures supported by a strong digital backbone. Participants were also introduced to the CEI-Sphere initiative and its Energy & Infrastructure Sphere\, which aims to strengthen collaboration across the Cloud-Edge-IoT ecosystem\, facilitate knowledge exchange\, and accelerate the market adoption of interoperable digital solutions. \nCOP-PILOT was represented during the panel session “Pilots\, Challenges & Opportunities in Smart Energy Solutions”\, where Dimitrios Brodimas from project partner enakronIC presented the activities of Cluster 3E in Western Greece. The presentation demonstrated how COP-PILOT enables intelligent orchestration across the IoT–edge–cloud continuum in real-world energy environments through secure and interoperable data exchange. \nThe session highlighted three interconnected Cluster 3E use cases: \n\nGrid flexibility management through distributed energy resources\nPredictive maintenance and demand forecasting for EV charging infrastructure\nReal-time monitoring and anaerobic digestion forecasting for biogas plants\n\nThrough these pilots\, COP-PILOT showcased how selective and secure cross-domain data sharing can improve grid visibility\, coordination\, and operational efficiency while preserving data sovereignty and ensuring the safe operation of critical energy infrastructure. \nThe panel discussion also explored the current challenges limiting large-scale deployment of interoperable energy solutions\, including technical\, regulatory\, and organisational barriers. Participants exchanged perspectives on the steps required to strengthen interoperability\, accelerate adoption\, and support the development of smarter\, more resilient\, and more sustainable European energy ecosystems. \nCOP-PILOT’s participation provided an important opportunity to share lessons learned from its large-scale pilots\, engage with key stakeholders from the energy and telecommunications sectors\, and contribute to ongoing discussions on the role of Cloud-Edge-IoT technologies in Europe’s energy transition.
